Code Librarian Viewer Explorer

This content is no longer actively maintained. It is provided as is, for anyone who may still be using these technologies, with no warranties or claims of accuracy with regard to the most recent product version or service release.

This new user interface improves the flexibility and information you have when completing a task in the Code Librarian Viewer. For instance, you can select a code item from the tree view window, or you can conduct a search and select the desired code item from the Search Results window. This screen contains the following major elements: the Explorer window, the Description window, the Code Viewer window, the Search Results window, four command buttons, and the menu bar.

Tip   The sizes of each window are adjustable within the same columns that they are oriented.

  • Explorer
The Code Librarian Viewer Explorer provides a hierarchical view of all open databases. Both categories and code items are displayed in this view. To view an item, select it from the tree view. If there are code items or subcategories under a category, a plus (+) or minus (-) appears beside the category. Selecting a plus expands the field and displays the code items and subcategories; selecting a minus contracts the category and hides the code items and subcategories.
  • Description
When a code snippet is selected, its description appears in this description box. Only one description appears in the description box at a time. Text that you select from the description box can be copied and pasted.
  • Code Viewer window
Displays the selected code item. The code viewer displays one code item at a time. All code in the code viewer window is read-only, and the text can be copied and pasted.
  • Search Results window
This window displays the results of a query you perform. These results remain until a new search is performed, the library is closed, or a new library is opened. The Search Results list window is blank until you perform your first query.

The following features are command buttons in the Code Librarian Viewer.

  • Open Library toolbar button
Opens a Browse dialog box where you can select a library to open. If a library is open when you choose to open a new library, then the open library is closed, and the newly selected library is opened in its place. Only one code library can be open at a time in the Code Librarian Viewer. In addition, the Open function is available on the File menu.
  • Copy toolbar button
Copies the code item text to the clipboard when a code item is selected. In addition, the Copy function is available on the Edit menu.
  • Properties toolbar button
Opens the Properties window for the currently selected code item. Name, Date, Type, and Author of the code item are displayed. In addition, the Properties window is available from the Edit menu.
  • Find toolbar button
Initiates Find In dialog box. When the dialog box appears, you can type what you want to search for in the search text box, and select which category you want to search within; the categories include titles, code, descriptions, and keywords. In addition, the Find function is available on the File menu.

In addition, there is a Refresh command on the View menu. If you make changes to the Code Library and they do not show up correctly in the Code Librarian Viewer, click Refresh to update the display.
