Defining Start Menu Shortcuts

In the Packaging Wizard, you can either accept the default shortcuts or customize the Start menu groups and group items that should be created on the user's computer during installation of your application. You can create groups and items for your application within the Programs subdirectory of the Start menu.

In addition to creating new Start menu groups and items, you can edit the properties for an existing item, or you can remove groups and items.

To customize the Start Menu shortcut

  1. Select the item you wish to modify in the Start Menu Shortcuts window, and click the appropriate command button.
    To Click
    Add a new folder to the Start menu structure New Folder
    Add a new shortcut icon within a Start menu folder New Shortcut
    Remove the selected item from the Start menu structure Remove
    Define the properties for the selected item and to associate a shortcut with an application or command Properties
  2. To associate a shortcut icon with an application, select the shortcut icon and click Properties.
  3. In the Start Menu Item Properties window you can edit properties, including the Name, description, command line, and icon for the application.
  4. Click Next, or, if you have established the necessary options for your setup package, then click Finish to package your application and close the Packaging Wizard.
