Step 4: Localize the InfoPath Form Template (*.xsn) File

The InfoPath form template (.xsn) file contains views that define the data to display on the form and the layout of the data. In this step, you learn how to localize all the labels that appear in these views.

Applies to: SharePoint Server 2010

In the AdventureWorks2008 Declarative Outlook Solution Sample, there are two InfoPath views that contain the layout of the data from the external system. These views appear in the external data parts in Microsoft Outlook. You must localize the labels for both views as described in the following steps.

To localize labels for InfoPath form template views

  1. Open the InfoPath form template (.xsn) file in Microsoft InfoPath Designer 2010. In the AdventureWorks2008 Declarative Outlook Solution sample, the InfoPath form template is OrderHeaderTemplate.xsn.

OrderHeaderTemplate.xsn contains the following two views: edit item and task pane.

    1. Edit item view  This view appears when you edit an order that appears in the task pane of the Contoso Customer Contact in Outlook, or when you create a new order for the Contoso Customer Contact. Figure 1 shows the edit item view.

    2. Task pane view  This view appears when you open a Contoso Customer Contact in Outlook and then select a related order. This view displays the details of the selected order. Figure 2 shows the task pane view.

  2. To localize the labels, edit them directly in each view form.

  3. To switch to another view, on the Page Design tab on the ribbon, click View and then choose the view you want.
