Extending Search for SharePoint Portal Server

This section provides information about extending search capabilities for Microsoft® SharePoint™ Portal Server 2001. Protocol handlers extend search capabilities by making new content sources available to the two main components of the Search Service, the Gatherer and the Index engine. SharePoint Portal Server also provides extended registration functions for indexing filters. These filters extend the type of documents that can be filtered.
