How to Monitor Network Traffic Between Two Computers Using Network Monitor

This topic explains how to use Network Monitor to monitor traffic between two computers. Monitoring network traffic can help you troubleshoot network problems.
Before You Begin
This procedure works only on Microsoft Windows computers that have the Network Monitor tools and drivers installed. For instructions on how to install the Network Monitor tools and drivers, see Windows Help and Support, which is located on the Windows Start menu.
To perform the following procedure, the account you use must be delegated membership in the local Administrator group. For more information about permissions, delegating roles, and the rights that are required to administer Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, see Permission Considerations.
Procedure
To monitor network traffic between two computers
On the Capture menu, select Filter.
In the Capture Filter dialog box, double-click ANY<->ANY.
In the Address Expression dialog box, in the left window, select the address of one of the two computers to be monitored.
In the Address Expression dialog box, in the right window, select the address of the second computer to be monitored.
In Direction, select one of the following symbols:
To monitor the traffic that passes in either direction between the two computers that you selected, select the <--> symbol.
To monitor only the traffic that passes from the computer selected in the left window to the computer selected in the right window, select the --> symbol.
To monitor only the traffic that passes from the computer selected in the right window to the computer selected in the left window, select the <-- symbol.
Click OK.
In the Capture Filter dialog box, click OK.
On the Capture menu, click Start.
