Use the Edit Transport Rule page of the Edit Transport Rule wizard to modify the conditions, actions, and exceptions that the rule applies to messages.

Conditions

  • Step 1: Select conditions
    Use this list of options to modify the conditions that, if found to be true for a message, mean that the actions that are defined later in the wizard are applied to the message.

    • The options are phrased in general terms that you make more specific in Step 2 lower on the page. For example, if you select from people in Step 1, you define exactly which people you mean in Step 2.

    For each condition that you select in Step 1, look for blue underlined text in Step 2.

  • Step 2: Edit the rule description
    Use this area to modify the specific conditions for the options that you selected in Step 1.

    • Click each blue underlined term to customize the rule for your configuration. For example, if you selected from people in Step 1, in Step 2, click the names or addresses that have already been specified and add or remove addresses from the list that appears.

Actions

  • Step 1: Select Action(s)
    Use this list of options to modify the actions that you want to be applied to this rule.

    • The options are phrased in general terms that you make more specific in Step 2 lower on the page. For example, if you select copy the message to addresses in Step 1, you edit the addresses in Step 2.

    For each condition that you select in Step 1, look for blue underlined text in Step 2.

  • Step 2: Edit the rule description
    Use this area to modify the specific actions for the options that you selected in Step 1.

    • Click each blue underlined term to customize the rule for your configuration. For example, if you selected from copy the message to addresses in Step 1, in Step 2, click the names or addresses that have already been specified and add or remove addresses from the list that appears.

Exceptions

  • Step 1: Select Exceptions
    Use this list of options to modify the exceptions that you want to be applied to this rule.

    • The options are phrased in general terms that you make more specific in Step 2 lower on the page. For example, if you select except when the message is from people in Step 1, you define exactly which people you mean in Step 2.

    For each condition that you select in Step 1, look for blue underlined text in Step 2.

  • Step 2: Edit the rule description
    Use this area to modify the specific exceptions for the options that you selected in Step 1.

    • Click each blue underlined term to customize the rule for your configuration. For example, if you selected except when the message is from people in Step 1, in Step 2, click the names or addresses that have already been specified and add or remove addresses from the list that appears.
