Manage property extraction (FAST Search Server 2010 for SharePoint)

Applies to: FAST Search Server 2010

The property extraction feature identifies key information such as person names, company names, and geographic names/locations in documents. These properties are extracted from documents based on word lists and context rules, and help find out the "who", "what", "when" and "where" of each document.

The properties can be used to improve the search experience, for example by providing search result refinement based on the properties, or by highlighting the properties in the result summary or displaying meta information about the property in the result summary. For each property extractor, the administrator can maintain an include list and an exclude list.

Note

This section describes how to manage property extraction by using Windows PowerShell. For information about managing property extraction by using the graphical user interface, see Manage Property Extraction (Office.com).
