Changing Server settings for Groove Server Relay

This article describes how to change server settings for Groove Server Relay by using the Groove Relay Control Panel item. Initial settings reflect the administrative entries made during Groove Server Relay installation.
This procedure requires that Groove Server Relay is installed as described in Install and configure Groove Server 2010 Relay.
To change Relay server settings
Open the Control Panel from the Start menu and then double-click the Groove Relay Control Panel item. The Server page appears.
From the Server page, set field values as described in the table that follows this procedure and then click Apply.
Click the Admin Interface page, click Generate Files, and then click OK.
Important
If you make any changes to the Groove Relay Control Panel settings while the Relay server is running, you must restart the Groove Relay service for the changes to take effect.

Relay Server Name |
Accept the default Relay Server Name entry or enter the fully qualified, publicly recognized DNS name for the Relay server, that you previously registered with the DNS. Use the format <relay name>.<company name>.<top-level domain>. For example, relay1.contoso.com. This name identifies the Groove Relay to the Groove Server Manager and to SharePoint Workspace clients. Private Key File Name |
Accept the default Private Key File Name entry or change it (for example, to include the Relay server name, such as relay1privkey.dat). This will be the name of the Relay server private key file when it is generated. The private key certificate file contains the Relay server SSTP private key that is used to identify the Relay server to SharePoint Workspace clients that are assigned to it. Default: privkey.dat |
Certificate File Name |
Accept the default Certificate File Name entry, or change it (for example, to include the Relay server name, such as relay1ServerCertificate.dat). This will be the name of the Relay server public key when it is generated. The public certificate file contains the corresponding SSTP public key that helps secure SharePoint Workspace messages and content that SharePoint Workspace clients send to the Relay server. Default: ServerCertificate.cer |
Generate Files |
Click the Generate Files button, and then, when you are prompted to Define Passphrase, enter and confirm a private key password of up to 255 characters. Click OK to generate the Relay server certificate files. This passphrase applies both to the Relay server key files that you defined on this tab and to the SOAP key files defined on the SOAP tab of the Groove Relay Control Panel item. A hash of this password is used to encrypt the keys that are stored in the files. Groove Server Relay uses this password to decrypt private key information which it requires to run. If you believe that the passphrase has been compromised, you can change it by clicking the Change Passphrase button. Note Memorize this passphrase because you cannot recover it if it is lost or forgotten. The password is not stored anywhere in readable form. Important Do not generate any new Groove Server Relay private key and certificate files or SOAP key and ID files after initial key and file creation. Doing so will permanently prevent existing SharePoint Workspace clients from accessing the Relay server. |
