Installing Additional Chat Servers for a Multiple-Server Topology (2007 R2 Beta)

[This is preliminary documentation and is subject to change. Blank topics are included as placeholders.]

After you install the initial Chat Server instance , you can install up to two more Chat Server instances to create Group Chat pool for scaling and failover. These server instances must be installed on their own separate computers, and if you plan to install a Compliance Server , you must install it on a separate computer. During the installation of a second or third server instance, the established settings from the server pool are used and controls are unavailable for settings that are used by all Chat Servers (and specified on the first Chat Server), including the following:

  • Active Directory (Only the Password box is available.)
  • Office Communications Server (No controls are available.)
  • Lookup Server (No controls are available except the Password, Confirm Password, and Pool Communication Port boxes.)

After you install one or more additional Chat Servers, Office Communications Server directs traffic to servers in a round-robin fashion.

To install additional Chat Servers

  1. To install a second or third server (in a pooled environment), repeat the procedure that you used to install the first Chat Server.

  2. In any wizard page that does not contain active controls, click Next.
