Remove Prerequisite Software From Lync Server

During the deployment process, the Deployment Wizard for Microsoft Lync Server 2010 automatically installs prerequisite software, based on the role that the server performs in the deployment. If you do not plan to deploy a new Lync Server topology or if no other programs on the computer use this software, we recommend that you remove it. If you deploy a new Lync Server topology and the Deployment Wizard does not detect it on the computer, it reinstalls the prerequisite software.

Tip

The removal of any other files is optional. It is not required to remove any of the files listed in the following procedure.

To remove prerequisite software installed by Lync Server using the Windows Control Panel

  1. Log on to the computer where Lync Server 2010 was installed as a member of the Local Administrators group.

  2. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

  3. Click Programs, and then click Programs and Features.

  4. In the list, click each of the following programs, and then click Uninstall.

    Note

    The list of packages to remove assumes that the server role files have already been removed. If they have not, do not proceed and see Remove Lync Server 2010 Files.
    The listed order should avoid any dependency problems associated with one package relying on another. In rare occasions, removing one package before the package that depends on it may prevent you from removing the dependent package.

    • Microsoft Unified Communications Managed API 3.0, Windows Workflow Activities Runtime 64-bit

    • Microsoft Unified Communications Managed API 3.0, Core Runtime 64-bit

    • Microsoft Server Speech Platform Runtime (x64)

    • Microsoft Server Speech Recognition Language – TELE (en-US)

      Note

      You uninstall this software for each language pack that is installed on the computer.

    • Microsoft Server Speech Text to Speech Voice (en-US, Helen)

      Note

      You uninstall this software for each language pack that is installed on the computer.

    • Microsoft SQL Server VSS Writer

    • Microsoft SQL Server Native Client

    • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Browser or Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Browser

    • Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Backward compatibility

    • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 (64-bit) or Microsoft SQL Server 2008 (64-bit)

    • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Setup Support Files or Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Setup Support Files

    • IIS URL Rewrite Module 2

      Important

      If you intend to remove the IIS URL Rewrite module, it is highly recommended that you remove Internet Information Server (IIS) through the server’s Server Manager prior to removing the module.

    • Microsoft Silverlight

    • Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable – x64 9.0.30729.4148

    • Microsoft Visual J# 2.0 Redistributable Package – SE (x64)

      Note

      Removing Silverlight, the Visual C++ 2008 redistributable and the Visual J# redistributable are optional. If you plan to redeploy the server into a Lync Server 2010 or to a number of other server product roles, you may need this software installed.
