Event ID 46 — Server Licensing Compliance

The licensing terms for Windows EBS require that the three servers for Windows EBS are used in their intended roles. If there are more than three Windows EBS servers in the domain, the Management Server automatically shuts down 28 days after the condition is first detected, unless corrective action is taken.

Resolve

Restore the Access Control List of the computer object

To resolve this issue, you must restore the access control list (ACL) of the computer object that is reported in the event description.

To restore the ACL of the computer object

  1. Click Start, click in the Start Search box, type adsiedit.msc, and then press ENTER. The ADSI Edit snap-in opens in Microsoft Management Console.
  2. On the Action menu, click Connect to, accept the default selection of Default naming context, and then click OK.
  3. In the navigation tree, expand Default naming context, expand DC=<DomainName>, DC=com, and then expand CN=Computers.
  4. Right-click the computer that is specified in the event description, and then click Properties.
  5. Click the Security tab, and then click Advanced.
  6. On the Permissions tab, click Restore defaults.

Verify

Look for an event with a Source of Microsoft-Windows-Server Infrastructure Licensing and an Event ID of 17. This event indicates that the number of Windows EBS servers in the network is correct.
