In this topic, you will configure Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) to permit Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5 subscribers to connect to a SQL Server Publication. This topic assumes that you have installed and configured IIS on a server, that you can access that server from the computer on which you run the Configure Web Synchronization Wizard, and that you have administrative access to the server. The Configure Web Synchronization Wizard steps assume that you have already configured a snapshot share for replication. If you have not yet configured a Publication, see How to: Create a Publication for SQL Server Compact Subscriptions (SQL Server Management Studio).
To run the Configure Web Synchronization Wizard
Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5, and then click Configure Web Synchronization Wizard.
On the Introduction screen, click Next.
On the Subscriber Type screen, select SQL Server Compact 3.5, and then click Next.
In the Web Server page, enter the name of the computer on which the virtual directory will be created. If you want to create a new virtual directory that SQL Server Compact 3.5 subscribers will use, choose Create a new virtual directory, and then choose the Web site in which to create the new directory. Otherwise, choose Configure an existing virtual directory, and then select the directory from the list. When you have made your selection, click Next. The remaining steps assume that you are creating a new virtual directory.
In the Alias text box, type a name for the new virtual directory. In the Path text box, set the local file path for the virtual directory, and then click Next.
The Secure Communications page of the Configure Web Synchronization Wizard configures Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) settings for encrypted communication. Select the appropriate settings and click Next.
For more information, see Secure Communications. |
On the Client Authentication page, select the type of authentication you will use for authenticating all SQL Server Compact 3.5 subscribers, and then click Next. The following steps assume that you choose to use Authentication instead of permitting Anonymous access.
On the Authenticated Access page, select the kinds of authentication you will use, provide any additional information required for the selected authentication type, and then click Next. The following steps assume that you have chosen to use Integrated Windows Authentication only.
On the Directory Access page, add the user or group accounts that will have access to the virtual directory, and then click Next.
On the Snapshot Share Access page, provide the Universal Naming Convention (UNC) path of the snapshot share, and then click Next.
Click Finish to create and configure the virtual directory, and then click Close when the wizard finishes.
