Lesson 7: Running a Tabular Report (Report Builder)

In this tutorial, you have been working in Report Builder design mode up until now. In design mode, you are working with a representation of the data, not the data that exists in the underlying database. In this lesson, you will run the report to view the actual data in the report layout that you just designed.

To run the report

  • In Report Builder design mode, click the Run Report button on the Report toolbar.

    Note

Alternatively, on the View menu, click Run Report.

The report you created is displayed in Report Builder run mode. In run mode, you can print, save, group and sort your data, and export the content as a different file type. You can switch back to design mode to continue refining your report.

To return to design mode

  • In Report Builder run mode, click the Design Report button on the Report toolbar.

    Note

Alternatively, on the View menu, click Design Report.

The report you created is displayed in Report Builder design mode again.

You have successfully run the report and viewed the data contained within the report. You can save your report now, or you can continue to work on the report. In the next lesson, you will save the report to the report server. See Lesson 8: Saving a Tabular Report to the Report Server (Report Builder).
