How to: Register an Instance of Notification Services for Client Components (SQL Server Management Studio)

If a server runs non-hosted event providers or subscription management interfaces, but not Notification Services engine components, you need to register the instance, but you do not need to create a Microsoft Windows service. The following procedure shows how to register an instance without creating the Windows service.

Note

When you register an instance of Notification Services by using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, you are creating registry entries on the local server (not necessarily the database server). The database server value in the registry entry is the instance of the Database Engine that you are connected to in SQL Server Management Studio.

To register an instance of Notification Services for non-hosted components

  1. In Object Explorer, expand the Notification Services node.

  2. Right-click the instance you want to register, point to Tasks, and then select Register.

  3. Click OK to register the instance without creating the Windows service.
