Tutorial: Creating a Basic Table Report (Report Builder 2.0)

This tutorial is designed to help you create a basic table report based on the AdventureWorks2008 database. You will learn to create a report, use the Table wizard to specify report data, add a table, organize the data in the table, choose a table style, run the report, and save it to a report server.

If you do not have access to a report server, you can learn about Report Builder 2.0 by building an offline report. See Tutorial: Creating a Quick Chart Report Offline (Report Builder 2.0).

Requirements

You must have the following prerequisites to complete this tutorial:

  1. Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Report Builder 2.0 installed on your computer.

  2. Access to the AdventureWorks2008 sample database that is installed on a Microsoft SQL Server 2008 server.

  3. Permission to save and view reports and to view models and shared data sources on a Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services report server or a SharePoint site that is integrated with a SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services report server. You must be able to browse to and include a reference to the shared data source that points to the AdventureWorks2008 sample database, and be able to save reports to a report server.

  4. The URL for the report server and the default folders for reports, shared data sources, and models.

The system administrator must grant you the necessary permissions on the report server and the AdventureWorks2008 sample database, configure SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services default folder locations, and configure Report Builder 2.0 default options.
