Protecting Databases

DPM does not directly protect databases in a connected environment. A connected environment is an environment in which a user or an application is continuously connected to the database. You can, however, use DPM to protect database data by exporting the data to a static file at regular intervals, and then protecting the static file.

To protect database data, add a data source (a volume, folder, or share that will contain the exported file) to a protection group in DPM. Then, use the database application to export the database to a file on a regular schedule. You can either export the database directly to the protected data source, or you can export it to another location and copy the exported file to the protected data source.

To recover a database that is protected in this manner, you first recover a previous version of the static file from the DPM server, and then use the database application to restore the database from the previous version.
