Configuring the Advertise Task Sequence Object

To configure the Advertise Task Sequence object

  1. From the Objects pane, drag an Advertise Task Sequence object to the active policy.

  2. Double-click the Advertise Task Sequence object icon. The Properties dialog box opens.

  3. Configure the settings in the Details tab:

    1. In the Connection section, click the ellipsis button (...), and then select the Configuration Manager server connection that you want to use for this object. Click OK.

    2. In the Fields section, enter a value for each of the required properties. If the property is Lookup-enabled, you can click the ellipsis (…) button next to the text box to browse for a value.

You can also use published data to automatically populate the value of the property from the data output by a previous object in the workflow.

      To use published data

      1. Right-click the property value box, click Subscribe, and then click Published Data.

      2. Click the Object drop-down box and select the object from which you want to obtain the data.

      3. To view additional data elements common across the policy, select Show Common Published Data.

      4. Click the published data element you want to use, and then click OK.

For a list of the data elements published by each object, see the Published Data tables in the object topic. For information about the Common Published Data items, see the "Policy Workflow Rules" chapter of the Opalis Integration Server Client User Guide (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=205284).

  4. Configure the settings in the Schedule tab:

The Schedule tab allows you to define a mandatory assignment for the advertisement as well as options for slow links and interaction. Mandatory assignment schedules cause Configuration Manager to automatically run the program at a specific time or according to a specific event, such as user Logon/Logoff. The settings on this tab are optional.

When a mandatory assignment is defined for this advertisement, client computers will use the Advertisement Start Time to determine when to start downloading the package.

    To add a mandatory assignment

    1. Click Add. The Mandatory Schedule dialog box opens.

    2. To schedule the advertisement at a specified date and time select Use the following schedule.

      1. To schedule the event, click the ellipsis (…) button to open the Date Time Selection dialog. Modify the date and time according to your needs, and then click OK.

      2. If you want all clients to run the program at the same time regardless of time zone, select the UTC check box.

      3. If you want the advertisement to run on a recurring schedule, select one of the options: Weekly, Monthly or Custom Interval and set the properties according to your needs.

    3. To run the advertisement after an event, select Assign immediately after this event. Select the applicable option As soon as possible, Logoff, or Logon.

    4. Click OK to save the schedule.

    5. Select Assignments are not mandatory over slow links if you want the advertised program or task sequence to run only when the target computer is connected by a high-speed (LAN) network.

    6. Select Allow the user to run the program independently of assignments if you want to allow users to be able to run the program whether or not it has actually been assigned to the target computer.

  5. For information about the settings on the General and Run Behavior tabs, see Common Configuration Instructions for All Objects.

  6. Click Finish.
