Analyze Your Environment

Before you begin defining the business requirements for your MOM deployment, it is important that you analyze your current environment. You can use the planning worksheets included in the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Deployment Kit to help you document general environmental considerations, such as:

  • Network topology

  • Hardware and Software inventories

Tip

If you already have Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 in your environment, you can use it to obtain your software inventory.

Additionally, use the Deployment Planning Worksheet to document the following:

  • Service level monitoring requirements

  • Organizational monitoring requirements

  • Failover and redundancy scenarios

  • Reporting and data retention requirements

  • Network operations center monitoring requirements
