Rules in Management Packs

Management Pack objects such Computer Attributes and Computer Groups enable the proper deployment of rules to managed computers.

Rules define:

  • Where to perform data analysis (Provider).

  • What particular information is interesting (Criteria).

  • What response should be executed when interesting information is found (for example, raise an alert or send a notification).

These rules are deployed to MOM agents, which interpret and act upon a rules instruction set. For agentless management the rules will run within the Management Servers agent and execute remotely against the agentless managed computers.

Important

The event ID 40000 is reserved by MOM for internal functionality. Do not create rules that match this event ID because this can cause the Management Pack to raise false alerts.
