How to Customize Your Views
The following methods are available for tailoring your Virtual Machine Manager (VMM) Administrator Console views to your own needs:
- Create host groups to add custom folders to the navigation pane in Hosts view and Virtual Machines view. For more information, see About Host Groups and How to Create a Host Group.
- Configure library groups to group library servers in the results pane. For more information, see How to Modify the Properties of a Library Server.
- Configure tags for virtual machines to allow you to filter and group virtual machines. For more information, see How to Modify General Properties of a Virtual Machine.
- Add custom properties to hosts and virtual machines for use in searching, sorting, and grouping. For more information, see How to Add and Display Custom Properties for a Host and How to Add and Display Custom Properties for a Virtual Machine.
The following procedures provide two ways to change the columns that are displayed in a view and the order in which the columns appear. Any changes that you make to the console display remain the next time that you open the console.
To select columns for a view by using Select Columns
Display the view that you want to modify.
On the toolbar, click Select Columns.
In the Select Columns dialog box, select each property that you want to add to the results display. To remove a column, clear the check box for the property.
To change the order of the columns, highlight a column header and click Move Up or Move Down.
To select columns for a view from the main console
Display the view that you want to modify.
Right-click anywhere in the column headers in the results pane to drop down a list of properties to choose from. To add a column to the results display, select the property. To remove a column, clear the check box for a property.
To change the order the column in the results display, drag the column header left or right in the header row to where you want the column.
To group the displayed objects by the new column, select the property in the Group by box.
To sort the objects by the values in a different column, click the column header.
