How to Enable Message Tracking in Exchange System Manager

This topic describes how to enable message tracking in Exchange System Manager. You would use this feature to track all types of messages, including system messages and regular e-mail messages that are going to or coming from a non-Exchange messaging system, across your Exchange organization. You can use Message Tracking Center to locate messages that failed to arrive in your users' mailboxes, such as messages that are stuck in a connector's message queue.

Before You Begin

Before you perform the procedure in this topic, consider the following:

By default, message tracking is not enabled. You must enable this feature on each server for which you want to track messages. To enable message tracking for multiple servers, you can use a server policy.

Message tracking logs can grow quickly on bridgehead servers that process many inbound and outbound messages. Make sure that you have adequate disk space for tracking log files.

Enable message tracking

  1. Start Exchange System Manager and display the properties of the server on which you want to enable message tracking.

  2. On the General tab, select the Enable message tracking check box.

  3. To track the subject line for each message, in addition to envelope information, such as To, From, and Date Sent, select the Enable subject logging and display check box.
