To specify a SCSI disk as the startup device

  1. Open the Administration Website.
  2. Attach a virtual hard disk to any channel on the first virtual SCSI adapter only.
    How?
    1. In the navigation pane, under Virtual Machines, point to Configure and then click the virtual machine.
    2. In Configuration in the lower part of the page, click Hard disks.
    3. Click Add disk.
    4. In Attachment, select any channel that starts with SCSI 0, such as SCSI 0 ID 0, or SCSI 0 ID 1. A virtual machine can be started only from a virtual hard disk attached a channel to the first SCSI adapter, which is identified in the list as SCSI 0.
    5. Do one of the following:

In Known virtual hard disks, select the virtual hard disk to use.

In Fully qualified path to file, type the fully qualified path to the virtual hard disk, including the file name, and then click OK.

  1. Modify the basic input/output system (BIOS) of the virtual machine to specify a SCSI disk as the startup device.
    How?
    1. In the navigation pane, click Master Status.
    2. Under Virtual Machine Name, double-click the virtual machine name to turn on the virtual machine and connect to it using Remote View.
    3. As soon as you turn on the virtual machine, press DELETE to access the BIOS setup utility.
    4. In the BIOS setup utility, press the RIGHT ARROW key to select the Boot menu.
    5. Press the DOWN ARROW key to select Hard Disk Drives and press ENTER. The Hard Disk Drives screen opens and lists all available hard disks on the IDE channels and on the channels of the first SCSI adapter only.
    6. Press the appropriate arrow key to select the SCSI disk. The SCSI ID appears as the last two digits of the line identifying each SCSI disk.
    7. Press F10 to save your selection and exit the setup utility.

To perform this procedure, you must have the appropriate permissions. If you do not have the appropriate permissions, you will either receive an error message or you will not be able to view certain menu items and options described in this procedure. To change your permissions, contact your Virtual Server administrator. For more information, see Securing Virtual Server. If you have trouble accessing the BIOS, press DELETE as soon as the virtual machine starts to load and continue to hold the key until the BIOS setup menu appears. When typing paths to folders or files, note that local file paths (for example, C:<EM>my disk files\my disk.vhd) reference the computer running the Virtual Server service. If the file or folder that you want to reference is on a computer other than the one running the Virtual Server service, you must use a Universal Naming Convention (UNC) path (for example, \computer name\share\folder\file name).
