Creating FQDN for Forefront TMG servers
Updated: February 1, 2011
Applies To: Forefront Threat Management Gateway (TMG)
This topic describes how to create a Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) for Forefront TMG in a workgroup. The FQDN is a name used to enable array members and the Enterprise Management Server (EMS) to communicate with each other. Since FQDN is not available by default in a workgroup, you must create the same name for each Forefront TMG server, and for the EMS.
The following procedure describes how to create an FQDN for a server in a workgroup.
To create a FQDN for a Forefront TMG server
Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click System.
Click the Computer Name tab.
Click the Change button, and then in the Computer Name/Domain Changes dialog box, click the More button.
In the DNS Suffix and NetBIOS Computer Name dialog box, in Primary DNS suffix of this computer, specify the DNS suffix to be appended to the name of the computer. Then click OK.
After you apply the changes, restart the computer to initialize it with its new FQDN name.
Validate that each Forefront TMG server can resolve the FQDN of all the servers (including itself) in IPv4.
Repeat this procedure on each of the Forefront TMG servers
