Appendix A: Information Sent to Microsoft

Microsoft uses the information collected during activation to confirm that the copy of the software is licensed. The information is then aggregated for statistical analysis. Microsoft does not use or share the information to identify or contact the organization, except to prevent unlicensed use of the software. For more information about the information that is captured during activation and the use of that data by Microsoft, see the privacy statement for the software.

During MAK activation and KMS host activation, the following information is sent to Microsoft:

  1. Product key

  2. Operating system edition and the channel from which it was obtained

  3. Current date

  4. License and activation condition

  5. Hardware ID hash, which is a non-unique number that cannot be reverse-engineered

  6. Language settings

  7. IP address
