Step 1: Identify the Requirements. This step involves identifying the SharePoint Server 2010 business requirements.
Step 2: Apply the IT Policies. This step focuses on applying the IT policies applicable to the SharePoint Server 2010 websites identified in Step 1.
Step 3: Define the High-Level Architecture. This step involves determining the number and location of SharePoint Server 2010 farms, and placing the websites within farms.
Step 4: Design the Web Server Infrastructure. This step focuses on designing the web server instances, system capacity and performance. Also, this step involves determining the number of web servers required in each farm, fault-tolerance requirements, and virtualization.
