Deployment and Installation Guide (January 2011)

  • Issue: The installation and configuration of Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 for Retail Store Connect refers to restoring the messaging database and assigning privileges. In Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 for Retail R2, the database is now created for a Store Connect instance during the configuration of that instance.

    Description
On page 21, under Checklist for the head-office communications server, the sixth bullet point reads as follows:

Restore the Retail Store Connect message database and assign db_datareader and db_datawriter privileges to the Retail Store Connect user. (RSC)

Replace that bullet point with the following:

The Retail Store Connect message database is automatically set up when configuring a new instance of Retail Store Connect. You are prompted for the server name, database name, and user name. (RSC)
On page 46, delete the Restore the message database section.
On page 47, under Configure Retail Store Connect, delete the third bullet point in step 3 (If you used a name ...).
  • Issue: Database profiles are not assigned directly to stores and terminals; instead, they are inherited from distribution locations.

    Description
On page 44, delete the Assign database profile to a store section.
On page 44, delete the Assign database profile to a terminal section.
  • Issue: Instructions about how to configure Retail Store Connect are incorrect.

    Description
On page 46, in the Configure Retail Store Connect section, replace items 2 through 4 with the following steps (2 through 5) and notes:

    2. In Retail Store Connect Settings, type the name for this instance of the Retail Store Connect service. By default, this is the computer name. Select Add.

    3. In the Message Database prompt, type the name of the instance of SQL Server that will host the message database for this instance of Retail Store Connect, and then type the name of the database. If the message database does not already exist, Retail Store Connect will try to create it.

    4. In the Service Account prompt, type the user name and password to use for this instance of the Retail Store Connect service. This creates a Windows service for this instance of Retail Store Connect. Do not start the service yet.

    5. Complete the rest of the wizard by using the default settings. This associates this instance of Store Connect with the local message database.

    Notes

    - Try to use a unique name for each instance of Retail Store Connect in the organization.
    - Each instance of Retail Store Connect-including those on a single computer-must have a unique port.
    - For the Service account credentials, the User name must be in this format: domain/username.
    - If you want to save the packages of exchanged information so that you can view them with the Retail Store Connect Pack Viewer, select the Keep Package Files check box on the Server debugging properties page of the wizard. For more information about Pack Viewer, see the Retail Store Connect Technical Reference.
    - For more information about the settings in the wizard, see the Retail Store Connect Technical Reference.
    - On a Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 client computer, in Retail Scheduler, change the AOS profile to use this instance of Retail Store Connect. For more information, see Set up an AOS profile in Deploy Retail Store Connect earlier in this guide.
  • Issue: Instructions for the configuration of Retail Transaction Service are incorrect.

    Description
On page 51, under Configure the Retail Transaction Service profile, delete step 3a. Then, replace step 3b with the following:

    b. In the Transaction Service Location area, type the fully qualified name or IP address of the computer where Retail Transaction Service is installed, and then type the port number that Retail Transaction Service will use. By default, the port number for Retail Transaction Service is 1239. However, you can change it as described in the next procedure, Configure the port and AOS server.
On page 51, after the Configure the Retail Transaction Service profile section, add the following section:

Configure the port and AOS server
    1. In the Microsoft Dynamics for Retail installation folder, open the retailtransactionservice.exe.config file.
    2. For Port value , specify the port that Retail Transaction Service will listen on.
    3. For ObjectServer value, specify the AOS server name.
    4. Save the file.

Note For troubleshooting, you can also turn on logging in the config file.
  • Issue: Monitoring of Retail Store Connect has changed.

    Description
On page 55, replace the whole Monitor Retail Store Connect section with the following:

    Monitor Retail Store Connect messages

    Configure upload options
    1. Select Retail scheduler > Setup > Store integration > Retail Store Connect upload options .
    2. Configure how frequently you want to upload Retail Store Connect messages and which Retail Store Connect messages to upload. You can decide to upload all messages or just error messages.
    3. Select Retail scheduler > Setup > Store integration > Retail Store Connect profile .
    4. On the Configuration tab, in the Retail Store Connect upload options field, assign the upload options that you specified in step 2.
    5. Select Functions, and then select Send configuration.

    View, cancel, and delete messages

    1. Select Retail scheduler > Periodic > Store integration > Message status.

You can view all the messages in the message database. You can also cancel any messages about errors. Messages about errors might affect performance.

    2. Select Retail scheduler > Periodic > Store integration > Delete messages.

You can delete messages that are no longer useful. Deleting messages regularly can help save space in the message database.
  • Issue: Steps to deploy Enterprise Portal are missing.

    Description
On page 62, under Complete the upgrade checklist, add the following note after step 11:

Note Use one of the following methods to upgrade Enterprise Portal:

    - Use the AxUpdatePortal utility. For information, see this MSDN article: AxUpdatePortal Utility.
    - Reinstall Enterprise Portal.
