"You must Provide a valid user name and password" error when changing Personal Options in Microsoft Dynamics CRM

This article helps you resolve the problem occurs when you change Personal Options in Microsoft Dynamics CRM.

Symptoms

An error message may occur when changing Personal Options in Microsoft Dynamics CRM:

"You must Provide a valid user name and password"

If these Personal Options are changed through the Microsoft Dynamics CRM for Outlook client, the following error may occur:

"JavaScript Error: 'LOCID_MSG_EMPTY_CREDENTIALS' is undefined"

Cause

If a user has Allow E-mail router to use my credentials to send and receive e-mail on my behalf marked in their Personal Options and do not have credentials entered in the lines provided.

If no credentials are entered, a warning message will be provided. This did not occur in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0, but was added to Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, follow one of the options below:

  • Option 1:

    Enter the valid credentials for the user in their Personal Options.

  • Option 2:

    Make sure the user setup in the Email Router Outgoing Configuration Profile has delegate access to Send As instead of Send on Behalf Of and uncheck Allow E-mail router to use my credentials to send and receive e-mail on my behalf.
