Add multiple clips to the Timeline
Using the Clips panel, you can add any number of additional clips to your original source clips.
When you add a clip, it is added in its entirety, but you can trim and cut it just as you can your original source. You can also crop and resize the additional clips.
The multiple clip feature integrates well with Microsoft Silverlight technology. For example, after you add multiple video clips to your video, you can, at each cut, assign a marker thumbnail representing the content of that clip. Then, you can encode your content to a Silverlight template that supports thumbnail navigation, which means you will be able to present a highly interactive, streaming video presentation.
In addition to video and audio clips, you can also add still images and .xaml files to your source video. Microsoft Expression Encoder adds still images at the default duration of one second. You can adjust this duration.

To add clips to your source video
If you cannot see the Clips panel then, on the Window menu, click Clips to open the Clips panel.
In the Media Content panel, select the media to which you want to add additional clips.
To insert clips, do any of the following:
Below the Timeline, click Add Source at Start

. Alternately, you can click the corresponding buttons in the Clips panel. Either method will add a clip to the beginning of the first media file on the Timeline, or to the end of the last media file on the Timeline, respectively.If you want to insert a clip at a particular point in the Timeline, then, in the Timeline, drag the playhead to the spot where you want to insert a clip. Then, in the Clips panel, click Add an edit at the playhead

. Once Expression Encoder creates the edit then click Add the source at the playhead .png "Cc294622.54f79ee8-acb4-4d74-a11f-17caeef0bfb8(en-us,Expression.30).png")
. Navigate to the clip that you want to add, select it, and click Open. Expression Encoder inserts the clip at the location of the playhead, splitting the original video. Note that the Timeline displays a break at the in and out points of the clip you added. Also, the Clips panel now displays the filepath and start and end times of all the clips in the Timeline. This columnar display serves to categorize each clip in the Timeline and to display the edit points that you have made in each clip.Note
You can only insert clips at the in and out points of previous clips. This means that if you have split a single clip into segments, you cannot insert a clip between those edit points.
Repeat step 4 to add additional clips to your original media. If you want to add clips to other media in your job, you will need to repeat steps 3 and 4.
To rearrange added clips
In the Clips panel, locate the clip that you want to move.
On the right side of the clip name, click the up or down arrow to move the clip in the respective direction in the hierarchy of clips.
To crop an added video clip
In the Clips panel, locate the clip with a star

next to its filename. This is the master clip. The master clip is always the original media that you imported into Expression Encoder.If necessary, drag the playhead to any frame in the master clip to display it in the viewer.
Click the Enhance tab. If you cannot see the Enhance tab, on the Window menu, click Enhance to open the panel.
If necessary, expand the Pre-Processing section and select Crop.
Adjust your crop margins. The dimensions that you set for your master clip crop will be what Expression Encoder uses when you apply the crop to any of the additional clips that you added.

Once you set your crop margins, click the Enhance tab.
In the Clips panel, locate the clip that you want to crop. Underneath the clip name, select Crop. Expression Encoder applies the crop that you set on your master clip to this clip and displays the image.
In the Resize menu, choose the way you want the clip to conform to its cropped size. Choose Letterbox to add black bars to the cropped clip, retaining its aspect ratio. Choose Stretch to resize the image to fit the boundaries of the output frame.
Repeat step 7 to crop other added clips.
To increase the duration of an added still image
Do one of the following:
- In the Clips panel, locate the still image clip whose duration you want to change. The time designations in the two boxes underneath the clip name display the duration of the clip. To increase the duration, type new values in the second box.
To delete an added clip
If you cannot see the Clips panel on the right side of the application window, on the Window menu, click Clips.
Do one of the following:
In the Timeline, drag the playhead to the added clip that you want to delete.
In the Clips panel, click the space next to, or between, the timecode boxes of the clip that you want to delete.
In the Clips panel, click Click to delete clip
