Save job files

Job files (.xej) are XML files that contain all the settings, or presets, that you applied to each media file in the job, and also pointers to those original media files. Because you can save all these elements of your work in a single file, you can make every aspect of a job (the media, settings, modifications, and metadata) available for later use or for archiving. If you want to quickly access recently-saved job files, on the File menu, click Recent Jobs.

A saved preset file, in contrast, does not include references to the original media file, and also contains only the settings applied to a single video.

Note

Because saved job files contain pointers to the location of the original media files, you must make sure that other users who open the job file also have access to the original file. Generally, this scenario works best when your source file resides on a shared network. That way, when you distribute the job file, you distribute it to users who have access to the network where the original file is located. However, if you have experience editing XML, you can put the original file in the same folder as the job file, and then open the job file in an XML editor or a text editor and update the path name of the original file to correspond with its new location. When a new user opens the job, Microsoft Expression Encoder can access the original file.
