Aligning text

The Common and Formatting toolbars enable you to quickly align a paragraph of text relative to either the web page or to the item that contains the text. You can also set the alignment of a paragraph by using the Paragraph dialog box when you also want to set the paragraph indentation and spacing options.

The Font dialog box enables you to set the position of one or more characters relative to the line of text the characters are within.

To set the alignment of a paragraph

  1. In Design view or Code view, in your web page, select one or more paragraphs, or to format a single paragraph, put your cursor in the paragraph.

  2. Do one of the following.

    • On either the Common or Formatting toolbar, click Align Left Cc295284.b6a7dbbb-0513-433d-b15b-b9da0017d6af(en-us,Expression.40).png, Center Cc295284.3ade5084-453a-4392-8ced-a25449ee96ff(en-us,Expression.40).png, or Align Right Cc295284.1538dfeb-b1ad-431d-a8af-94ed507eeda5(en-us,Expression.40).png.

    • On the Formatting toolbar, click Justify Cc295284.09c7257c-5d7d-48a3-a5f2-fff49120cb65(en-us,Expression.40).png.

    • On the Format menu, click Paragraph. In the Paragraph dialog box, in the Alignment box, click the arrow, and select an option, and then click OK.

To set the position of the text relative to the current line of text

  1. In Design view or Code view, in your web page, select the text that you want to format.

  2. On the Format menu, click Font.

  3. In the Font dialog box, click the Character Spacing tab.

  4. In the Position box, click the arrow and select an option.

  5. Click OK.
