Compatibility reports

A compatibility report checks pages and CSS files for code errors and code that's incompatible with the doctype and CSS schema you specify. You can generate a report that checks only particular files or an entire site.

To generate a compatibility report

  1. Do one of the following:

    • Open your site.

    • To restrict the report to check only particular files in your site, either open those files or select them in either the Folder List panel or the Site View.

  2. Do one of the following:

    • On the Tools menu, click Compatibility Reports.

    • In the Compatibility panel, click Run Compatibility Checker Cc295511.46327336-4b09-413d-bc3d-a4ffcf1f1938(en-us,Expression.40).png.

  3. In the Compatibility Checker dialog box, do the following:

    Check where

    Select the option that represents the pages you want to check.

    Check HTML/XHTML compatibility with

    Select the schema that will drive the incompatibility results for web pages. If the option Run check based on doctype declaration in page if available is selected, the DocType declaration in a page is used instead.

    Check CSS compatibility with

    Select the schema that will drive the incompatibility results for internal and external cascading style sheets (CSS) and CSS references in pages.

    Run check based on doctype declaration in page if available

    Use the DocType declaration in a page to drive incompatibility results. If a page doesn't contain a DocType declaration, the Check HTML/XHTML compatibility with setting drives the incompatibility result for that page.

  4. Click Check.

    The Compatibility panel opens and the status of the generation of the report appears at the bottom of the panel.

    Tip

    To stop the generation of a report, in the Common or Standard toolbar, click Stop Cc295511.2ab71409-c623-49ac-adef-eafa690e96e0(en-us,Expression.40).png.
