Captioning in a Live Broadcasting Project

Use the Script Commands panel to add captions to your live broadcasting project. There are two ways of adding captions:

Enter your captions manually in the Script Commands panel, either before you begin your broadcast, or as the broadcast is progresses.
Create your captions externally, save them as a delimited text file, and then import them into the Script Commands panel. Microsoft Expression Encoder supports the SAMI, DXFP, SMI, and TXT file formats for captions.

To enter captions manually

If you can't see the Script Commands panel, on the Window menu, click Script Commands.
In the Type column, click the box and type a name for the caption. Then, in the Command column, click the blank space and type the exact text of the caption.
Press ENTER.

A new row appears underneath the one that you are working with.
Repeat steps 2 and 3 for each caption that you want to create. After you have specified a type, you can choose that type again from the menu instead of retyping it. These steps apply both to creating captions in advance, or creating them as you perform your broadcast. To delete a row, click Remove script command.
After you begin your broadcast, click the Send button adjacent to the caption that you want to broadcast.

Note

The caption will not be displayed in the Output panel as you record your presentation. The caption is displayed only when the video is played back. However, if you decide to archive the file, you will see the caption text in addition to the corresponding marker when you open the file in the Transcoding Project or the Silverlight Project. You can then modify the caption text and the markers.

If you can't see the Script Commands panel, then on the Window menu, click Script Commands.
On the Script command options menu, click Import.
Navigate to the file that you want to import and click OK.
Your captions load into the Script Commands panel. If you imported SAMI, DXFP, or SMI files, then the captions appear ordered according to the time code information in the original text file. If you imported a TXT file, then the captions will retain the order that they were in the original file, with each line of the text file importing as a separate caption.

Import or create your captions as described in the previous procedures.
After you begin your broadcast, in the Script Commands panel, click the Send button adjacent to the caption that you want to broadcast.
