How to: Add a User
Unlike adding users to groups, adding users to a Team Foundation Server is not a common administrative task. Before you add the user, you should determine what the user's role is, and what permissions the user must have to complete this role. If the user is performing a common role, you might want to consider adding the user to a group, instead of adding the user directly. For more information about users, groups, and roles, see Team Foundation Server Default Groups, Permissions, and Roles.
Required Permissions
To perform this procedure, you must be a member of the Team Foundation Administrators group. Do not add a user to a Team Foundation Server unless the user needs permissions outside the scope of your Team Foundation Server groups. When you add users or groups, only allow the permissions the user or group must successfully perform their role. For more information about permissions, see Team Foundation Server Permissions.
To add a user to a Team Foundation Server
In Visual Studio, open Team Explorer, and connect to the Team Foundation Server for which you are adding a user.
Right-click the Team Foundation Server, point to Team Foundation Server Settings, and then click Security.
In the Global Security dialog box, in Add users and groups, select Windows User or Group, and then click Add.
Verify that both the object type and the location are correct.
In Enter the object names to select, type the alias for the user or group that you want to add to Team Foundation Server.
Click OK.
In the Global Security dialog box, make sure that the user you just added is highlighted in Users and Groups. In Permissions, select the permissions that you want to allow or deny the user or group that you are adding. By default, no permissions are allowed or denied to a new user or group. If you do not allow or deny any permissions, the user or group will not be created, and will not appear after you click Close.
Click Close.
