How to: View Team Foundation Server Performance Counters
You can use performance counters to view real-time data about Team Foundation Server or Team Foundation Server Proxy. For more information, see Monitoring Performance and Evaluating Team Foundation Server Performance.
Note
You can configure Performance Monitor to capture periodic data to create a historical record of performance over time. For more information, see "Monitoring Server Performance" on the Microsoft Web site.
Required Permissions
To perform this procedure, you must be a member of the Administrators group on the computer whose performance you want to monitor. For more information, see Team Foundation Server Permissions.
To view performance counters for Team Foundation Server on Windows Server 2003
Click Start, click AdministrativeTools, and then click Performance to open the Performance window.
In the tree pane, expand Console Root, and then click System Monitor.
Press CTRL+I to open the Add Counters dialog box, and then click Select counters from computer.
In Select counters from computer, make sure that the name of the computer whose performance you want to monitor appears. Otherwise, type or click the name of that computer.
In the Performance object list, click the appropriate set of performance counters. For example, you might click TFS Services, TFS ProxyServer, TFS Version Control, or TFS WorkItem Tracking.
Perform one of the following steps:
To specify all counters, click All counters, click Add, and then click Close.
To specify individual counters, click Select counters from list, click the counters that you want to add, click Add, and then click Close.
Note
To specify a continuous range of counters, press and hold the SHIFT key when you click the first and last counter in the range. To specify a discontinuous range, press and hold the CTRL key when you click each counter.
The performance counters appear in the viewing pane.
To view performance counters for Team Foundation Server on Windows Server 2008
Click Start, click AdministrativeTools, and then click Reliability and PerformanceMonitor.
The Reliability and Performance Monitor window appears.
In the tree pane, expand Monitoring Tools, and then click Performance Monitor.
Press CTRL+I to open the Add Counters dialog box.
In Select counters from computer, make sure that the name of the computer whose performance you want to monitor appears. Otherwise, type or click the name of that computer.
In the Available counters list, double-click the appropriate set for Team Foundation Server. For example, you might double-click TFS Services, TFS Proxy Server, TFS Version Control, or TFS WorkItem Tracking.
The performance counters for the specified object appear and are automatically selected.
Perform one of the following steps:
To specify all counters, click Add, and then click OK.
To specify individual counters, click the counters that you want to add, click Add, and then click OK.
