Checklist: Adding an Application Tier

You can follow the steps in this checklist to add an application tier to an existing deployment of Visual Studio Team Foundation Server.

The following table contains tasks and links. The links provide either procedural or conceptual information to help you perform the associated task. Perform the tasks from top to bottom, without skipping any tasks.

Preparation

These tasks prepare the operating system and network environment for Team Foundation Server.

Download the current version of this guide. The most recent version of this guide contains the most up-to-date installation procedures. Check for supported hardware and software. Verify that the operating system meets requirements for Team Foundation Server. Verify that the hardware can run an application tier. Check for required permissions and user accounts. Verify that the account that you will use to install Team Foundation Server is a member of the Administrators security group on the server where you will install the additional application tier. Check for supported environment settings. If you have a firewall between the server where you want to run this application tier and any clients or other servers that must connect to it, verify that any ports Team Foundation Server requires are open. If Windows Firewall is on and configured to allow exceptions, the installation wizard for Team Foundation Server creates exceptions for Team Foundation Server. If Windows Firewall is configured to disallow exceptions or you are using a different firewall, you must open the ports on the firewall manually before you install Team Foundation Server. Prerequisite Installation and Configuration

By completing these tasks, you can install and verify prerequisite software for adding an application tier to an existing deployment of Team Foundation Server.
