Use this wizard to create a new Microsoft® Visual InterDev™ and .

You can also use the Web Project wizard to connect to an existing Visual InterDev Web application or Microsoft® FrontPage® Web. For more information about using Visual InterDev and FrontPage to modify Web projects, see .

The Web Project wizard steps you through the process of naming a Web project, specifying a Web server, choosing your working mode, and selecting a layout and theme for your Web pages.

When you have completed the Web Project wizard, you have a new Web application on the master server and a new local Web project or a new Web project that references an existing Web application.

Depending on the options you select, the wizard will place the following files and folders in the Project Explorer:

  • _private folder

  • _ScriptLibrary folder

  • images folder

  • _Layouts folder

  • _Themes folder

  • Global.asa file

  • Search.htm file

You will also have the Web project definition files, .vip and .sln, on your workstation. For more information about the files and components associated with creating a new Web project, see .

If you would like to change the name of the Web project or choose a different Web server, you must rerun the Web Project wizard.

Tips for Using the Wizard

The following issue should be taken into account when you run this wizard:

  • The you choose in Step 1 must be running the FrontPage 98 server extensions or higher to properly create Web projects. The appropriate servers are included on the Visual InterDev Installation compact disc.

  • If you use a proxy server, entering the number for the IP Address for the Web server instead of the name may generate an authentication error. For more information, see Troubleshooting.

Next Steps

Once you have created your Web project, you are ready to begin working on your Web application. You can quickly add new pages using a file or import existing pages using the Add Item dialog box. For more information, see and .

You can also change the default theme and layout currently applied to the entire Web project or change the theme and layout applied to a particular page. For more information, see Apply Theme and Layout Dialog Box.

Depending on the type of Web application you are creating, you may want to add a data connection to your Web project. You can add a data connection in two ways.

  • Create a database project and then add a data connection to your Web project that points to the new database project.

  • Add a data connection to your Web project that points to an existing database.
