ExternalStorageFile Class

Represents a file on the SD card.

The ExternalStorageFile type exposes the following members.


  Name Description
DateModified Gets the date and time when the current file was last modified.
Name Gets the name of the file, including the file name extension.
Path Gets the path of the current file.



  Name Description
Dispose()()() Releases all resources used by the file on the SD card.
Dispose(Boolean) Releases all resources used by the file on the SD card.
Equals(Object) Determines whether the specified Object is equal to the current Object. (Inherited from Object.)
Finalize Performs cleanup operations prior to garbage collection. (Overrides Object..::.Finalize()()().)
GetHashCode Serves as a hash function for a particular type. (Inherited from Object.)
GetType Gets the Type of the current instance. (Inherited from Object.)
MemberwiseClone Creates a shallow copy of the current Object. (Inherited from Object.)
OpenForReadAsync Opens a stream over the current file for reading file contents. (This method cannot be used in Silverlight 8.1 apps. See remarks.)
ToString Returns a string that represents the current object. (Inherited from Object.)



Your app must register for a file association in the app manifest file to declare what file types (extensions) can be read from the SD card. For more info, see Auto-launching apps using file and URI associations for Windows Phone 8.


If you use this API in your app, you must specify the following capabilities in the app manifest. Otherwise, your app might not work correctly or it might exit unexpectedly.
