Blend workspace (Windows Phone)

The default workspace in Blend for Visual Studio 2012 consists of all the visual interface elements: the artboard, panels, workspace configurations, authoring views, and menus.

The Blend workspace is customizable and uniquely scalable. You can change panel orientation, dock or float panels, resize the panels by dragging the edges, zoom the artboard, and switch the snapping of objects on the artboard.

	Menus    Create new projects and manage settings.
	Tools panel   Create and modify objects in your application.
	Assets panel   Displays all of the elements and media resources that are available to the project.
	Artboard/Application page   The artboard is where you will perform most of the visual layout tasks. Notice that the application page for a Windows Phone project is framed by a virtual Windows Phone device that accurately represents the display of the device parameters.
	Additional panels   The specific panels that are available change depending on the type of project you are working on.

Windows Phone project workspace

Although the general layout of the workspace looks the same regardless of what kind of project you are working on, the specific panels and tools that are available will change slightly depending on the type of project that you choose.

The Windows Phone workspace in Blend is the same as the standard Blend workspace. In addition to the default Blend tools, the Windows Phone workspace includes the Device panel.

Also, instead of the Blend artboard, the Windows Phone document window in Blend displays a Windows Phone-style application page to assist you in designing Windows Phone applications.

	Device panel   You can use the Device panel to select the orientation of your application page, to determine the background and accent colors, and to choose whether to preview your application to the Windows Phone Emulator or on a Windows Phone device attached to your computer. 	Application page   The document window displays a Windows Phone-style application page as a design surface.
