Conversion Plug-ins Programming Reference

[The feature associated with this page, Windows Media Player SDK, is a legacy feature. It has been superseded by MediaPlayer. MediaPlayer has been optimized for Windows 10 and Windows 11. Microsoft strongly recommends that new code use MediaPlayer instead of Windows Media Player SDK, when possible. Microsoft suggests that existing code that uses the legacy APIs be rewritten to use the new APIs if possible.]

The Microsoft Windows Media Player Software Development Kit (SDK) supports an interface for conversion plug-ins that convert one digital media file format to another. The SDK also specifies requirements for registering file formats for conversion by a particular plug-in. The following sections documents these in detail.

Section Description
Registering Conversion Plug-ins Describes how to register digital media file formats for conversion.
IWMPConvert Interface Provides methods to enable Windows Media Player conversion plug-ins to convert digital media files that are created using technologies not provided by Microsoft, into Advanced Systems Format (ASF).
