Troubleshooting: Generic.cec is Missing (Windows CE 5.0)

Send Feedback

Description

Platform Builder displays a message explaining that your workspace is missing Generic.cec after the CleanDB.bat script has been run to clean the Catalog.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, perform the following steps.

  1. Check whether the Generic.cec file exists in %_winceroot%\public\common\oak\catalog\cec.

  2. If the Generic.cec file does not exist, perform a repair of your Platform Builder installation from the Control Panel.

Note   Performing a repair of the Catalog database will return it to the original installation state and third-party Catalog items will be removed. If you want to retain any third party Catalog items, make sure that you have copies of the associated Catalog item files.

This will retrieve a copy of the original Generic.cec file.

  3. To rebuild the Catalog database, run the CleanDB.bat script, which is located in C:\Program Files\Windows CE Platform Builder\5.00\cepb\bin.

This will rebuild the Catalog database file, Pbdb.mdb, typically located in %_WINCEROOT%\Public\Common\OAK\Catalog\Database\Pbdb.mdb.

  4. Verify that the timestamp and size of the Pbdb.mdb file have been updated.

  5. Import any third-party Catalog item files that you want to add again to the Catalog database. For information, see Adding a .cec File to the Catalog.
