SDRAM Density and Capacity and Power Consumption (Windows CE 5.0)
When the CPU is idle and peripherals are not accessing SDRAM, the only power SDRAM consumes is that of the SDRAM's self-refresh circuitry. Furthermore, for a particular SDRAM technology and memory density, the self-refresh power consumption scales linearly with the amount of installed SDRAM.
Therefore, to reduce power consumption, include only as much SDRAM as required for your specific use scenarios.
The following table shows sample power consumption rates for typical SDRAM configurations.
SDRAM configuration | Self-refresh current (mA) | Self-refresh power consumption (mW) - 3.3V |
---|---|---|
16mb (x16) | 0.8 | 2.6 |
32mb (x16) | 1.5 | 5.0 |
64mb (x16) | 3.0 | 9.9 |
32mb (x32) | 1.6 | 5.3 |
64mb (x32) | 3.0 | 9.9 |
128mb (x32) | 6.0 | 19.8 |
