The options on the Target menu enable you to download a run-time image to a target device for debugging and testing.

The following options are available.

Command Description

Attach Device

Use to connect the development workstation to the target device, download a run-time image to the target device, and then boot the device.

Detach Device

Use to disconnect the development workstation from the target device.

Reset Device

Use to reset the target device.

Target Control

Use to open the CE Target Control Window. For more information, see Command-Line Options with Target Control.

Run Programs

Use to select an application to run on the target device.

CE Debug Zones

Use to open the Debug Zones dialog box. For more information, see Debug Zones.

Connectivity Options

Use to select and configure a remote connection to a target device. For more information, see Target Device Connectivity Options Dialog Box.

Debug Message Options

Use to configure options for debug message output.

Release Directory Modules

Use to select modules to load from the release directory onto the target device.

Remote Tools

Select the remote tool that you want to run.

The following table shows the remote tools that are available for diagnostic analysis and debugging

Remote tool Description

Call Profiler

Provides profiling and analysis tools within a graphical user interface (GUI) that enable you to identify algorithmic bottlenecks in your applications.

File Viewer

Displays a hierarchical view of the file system on a target device.

Heap Walker

Displays information about heap identifiers and flags for processes that are running on a target device.

Kernel Tracker

Provides a visual representation of OS and application events occurring on a target device.

Performance Monitor

Measures the performance of a target device.

Process Viewer (Remote Tool)

Displays a list of processes and threads running on a target device.

Registry Editor

Displays the registry for a target device and enables you to manage the registry.

Spy

Displays a list of windows opened on a target device and messages generated by those windows.

System Information

Displays system settings and properties for a target device.

Zoom

Displays an image from the screen of a target device.
