The Windows Embedded NavReady architecture provides a set of components that work together to enable a new range of connected experiences on a portable navigation device (PND).

With Windows Embedded NavReady components, a portable navigation device (PND) can connect wirelessly to a Bluetooth-enabled device to use its services, such as voice calls, playing music, or connecting to the Internet. Windows Embedded NavReady components also let a portable navigation device (PND) connect to a radio receiver for accessing up-to-date, over-the-air information from MSN Direct, such as traffic, weather, and news alerts. With these integrated components on a Windows Embedded NavReady powered device, users can stay connected and informed wherever they go.

Architecture Capabilities

With Windows Embedded NavReady, you can upgrade the capabilities of a navigation application with features such as Point of Interest (POI) local search, traffic alerts, Send to GPS from Windows Live, local gas stations and prices, or information about events nearby. You can build Internet-based applications, such as a Live Search application, that are responsive to users' changing interests. And you can let users stay connected with their friends and their music with integrated Bluetooth features like Hands-Free Profile (HFP) and Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP).

Development Platform

Windows Embedded NavReady is compatible with the components of the Windows CE 5.0 operating system. Developers can use Windows Embedded NavReady with Platform Builder for Windows CE 5.0 to integrate these new features into a platform.

Windows Embedded NavReady targets hardware platforms that are based on the ARM microprocessor family.

Design Template

Windows Embedded NavReady provides a design template you can use as a starting point to create an operating system for a Windows Embedded NavReady powered device.

Design templates include the basic building blocks of the operating-system (OS) architecture. With design templates, you can select the components that meet the needs of the device environment and offer product differentiation.
