Virtual Private Networking (Compact 2013)

Windows Embedded Compact supports virtual private networking. The VPN support includes Layer Two Tunneling Protocol (L2TP)/IP Security Protocol (IPSec) and Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP). L2TP/IPSec enables enhanced security for virtual private network (VPN) client connections from devices to corporate servers. PPTP is a network protocol that adds a security infrastructure for data transfer from a remote client to a private enterprise server, thus creating a VPN by using TCP/IP-based data networks.
The L2TP/IPSec implementation in Windows Embedded Compact enables a more secure VPN client connection from a Windows Embedded Compact-based device to a corporate server.
The implementation supports the following:
- Public key certificates
- Preshared keys
- Encryption with data encryption standard (DES) and 3DES
- Internet Key Exchange (IKE) protocol, which supports authentication and key exchange using the Diffie-Helman (DH) algorithm
PPTP supports multiple network protocols and can be used for virtual private networking over public and private networks. PPTP can be used to provide on-demand, virtual networks by using dial-up lines, LANs, WANs, or the Internet and other public TCP/IP-based networks.
