Run-Time License Assessment Tool (Compact 2013)

3/26/2014

This tool determines which Windows Embedded Compact licenses are predicted for a run-time image based on a particular OS design.

How to Use

To use the Run-Time License Assessment Tool

  1. In Platform Builder, on the Tools menu, point to Platform Builder, and then click Run-time License Assessment Tool.

  2. View the Terms of Use for the Run-Time License Assessment Tool and then click Accept. Otherwise, click Decline to close the dialog box and cancel the operation.

  3. In the Run-time License Assessment Tool dialog box, in the Current Run-Time Image field, click Open and then navigate to the directory where the run-time image file that you want to license is located.

  4. To save the report for future reference, on the File menu, click Save As and then select a file format, such as HTML.

Remarks

When you run the Run-Time License Assessment Tool on a run-time image (.bin) file or Ceconfig.h file for a selected OS design, it displays information about the current run-time image that you are assessing, the predicted licenses for the run-time image, the SKUs that apply to the run-time image, and the included Windows Embedded Compact features for each SKU. This information is based on a determination of which Sysgen variables are set in the run-time image.

The tool also generates a report, in HTML format, that provides the following information.

  • Predicted License(s)
The SKUs for which you must purchase a license.
  • Applicable SKUs
The SKUs that apply to your OS design.
  • Run-Time Image Information
The Windows Embedded Compact features that are included in the OS design, sorted by SKU.
  • PID stamped on the run-time image file
The PID that you obtained from a distributor.

Note

The Run-Time License Assessment Tool only displays information about the PID if you open the associated run-time image file. This information is not displayed if you choose to open a Ceconfig.h file.

After you generate a report, you can view, save, and print the report for reference purposes.
