Install the Windows Imaging File System Filter Driver

To mount an image using ImageX, you must first install the Windows Imaging File System Filter (WIM FS Filter) Driver. By default, this is installed with Windows Embedded Standard 7 Toolkit, but if you run ImageX on a development computer without Standard 7 Toolkit, you must locate and install Wimfltr.inf. This guide discusses how to install this driver.

This guide assumes that you have a basic familiarity with ImageX.

Installing The WIM FS Filter Driver

  1. On your development computer, insert your Standard 7 installation disk and browse to the following directory: [disk]:\Windows Embedded Studio\Program Files\Windows Embedded Studio\Tools\<architecture>.

  2. Right click the Wimfltr.sys file and then click Install. This will install the driver to your development computer.
