Search Indexing
3/21/2011
This package is a Feature Pack in the category User Interface. The name of the package as it appears on disk and for use with some command-line tools is WinEmb-Search-Indexing.
This package includes Windows Desktop Search, an older content search feature also known as Indexing Service. Although not as powerful as Windows Search and requiring significant processor resources, it does have a smaller impact on disk space. Additionally, unlike the single index created by Windows Search, Windows Desktop Search can create multiple indexes based on each search, which can provide performance benefits in some situations.

Notes
On devices using File-Based Write Filter (FBWF) or Enhanced Write Filter with HORM (EWF) to protect volumes, folders, or files, any indexes created by Windows Desktop Search might not be persisted after a system restart, and therefore would have to be recreated. Due to the significant processor resources required to create indexes, you might want to use Desktop Search without indexes. To turn off indexing, stop and disable the Indexing Service in Control Panel.
