Microsoft Utility Rate Service

6/1/2011

Microsoft Utility Rate Service (URS) is a data service available through Windows Azure Marketplace DataMarket (DataMarket) that can be used to retrieve electric company utility (utility) rates. You can use Microsoft URS in your applications to determine the utility rates for a specific customer according to their customer plan. A customer plan defines the price of electricity per kilowatt hour (kWh) at various dates, times, and levels of electricity use within a billing cycle.

Important

The utility rates provided by Microsoft URS are based on the latest and best available data provided by participating utilities, and may vary from the actual rates charged by a utility for a specific customer.

Microsoft URS provides the following types of data:

  • Average utility rate per state
  • A list of utilities operating in a given postal code
  • A list of customer plans offered by a given utility
  • The price per kWh at various dates, times, and levels of electricity use for a given customer plan
