SD Boot

New for Windows Embedded Standard Service Pack 1: SD Boot is an Embedded Enabling Feature you can use to start a Windows Embedded Standard 7 Service Pack 1 image from a SD Card.
Standard 7 Service Pack 1 supports the use of SD Cards as an alternate form of storage for devices. Since there are a number of chipsets now available that support on-board Secure Digital Input Output (SDIO) and an increased demand for lower cost and specialized devices in the market, there are multiple benefits to using SD Cards as the primary storage for embedded devices:
- Smaller device footprints can be supported due to the reduced size of controllers/storage.
- Lower power consumption than Hard Disk Drive (HDD).
- Better handling of shock and vibration because there are no moving parts.
- Easy to remove or replace in case of failure, firmware upgrades, and so on.
