Disable Autoplay Policies (Standard 8)

Learn how to disable Autoplay policies on your Windows Embedded 8 Standard (Standard 8) device.

AutoPlay enables applications to run automatically when media, such as an external hard drive or a portable USB stick, is connected to your device.

You can disable AutoPlay on your device by configuring group policies.

To disable AutoPlay

  1. Press the Windows logo key + R to open a Run window.

  2. Type Gpedit.msc in the Open box, and then press ENTER.

  3. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.

  4. Under Computer Configuration, expand Administrative Templates, expand Windows Components, and then click Autoplay Policies.

  5. In the Details pane, double-click Turn off Autoplay.

  6. In the Turn off Autoplay window, click Enabled, and then select All drives in the Turn off Autoplay on: box to disable AutoPlay on all drives.

  7. Restart your device.
